Teacher Salim Yildirim Kindergarten
Project Overview – Steel Frame Laminate Door Installation
The Teacher Salim Yıldırım Kindergarten Project is a reference implementation carried out within an educational facility where door systems are required to withstand high daily traffic and intensive usage. The main objective of the project was to apply door components in accordance with relevant project standards, ensuring durability, hygiene, safety, and long service life across classrooms and shared areas.
In kindergarten buildings, door elements are exposed not only to adult use but also to frequent contact by children, meaning surfaces are more vulnerable to impact, wear, and abrasion. Therefore, the selection of materials must be evaluated not only aesthetically but also in terms of mechanical resistance and ease of maintenance. Within this scope, the project was completed using steel frame laminate doors, vision panels (porthole-style glass) on classroom doors, and high-end stainless steel accessories such as kick plates and stainless steel lever handles.
You can watch the project implementation video on the "Teacher Salim Yıldırım Kindergarten Implementation Video" page.
Door System and Technical Configuration
1) Steel Frame Laminate Door Application
The installed steel frame laminate doors are widely used in public buildings and educational institutions due to their strong structure and high post-installation stability.
Key advantages of the steel frame system include:
- High resistance against frame deformation,
- Reduced risk of loosening/warping under intensive use,
- Significant reduction in impact-related damage,
- Lower long-term maintenance costs.
The laminate surface finish applied on the door leaf provides a major advantage in facilities requiring strict hygiene standards, such as kindergartens, thanks to:
- Easy-to-clean surface structure,
- Improved stain resistance,
- Enhanced durability against cleaning chemicals.
2) Vision Panel (Porthole Window) on Classroom Doors
The vision panel (porthole window) application used on classroom doors is a critical detail in kindergarten projects in terms of both safety and operational control.
Main benefits of the vision panel include:
- Visual control between corridor and classroom,
- Ability to check inside without opening the door,
- Reduced risk of collision caused by sudden door opening,
- Easier administrative supervision and safety monitoring.
This application is widely accepted as a standard practice in facilities where young age groups are present.
Stainless Steel Hardware and Durability Solutions
1) Stainless Steel Kick Plate Application
The bottom part of the door leaf is typically the most exposed area due to constant contact with cleaning equipment, toys, bags, push impacts, and high foot traffic. For this reason, stainless steel kick plates were applied within the project.
Kick plate advantages:
- Protects the door surface against impact damage,
- Slows down deformation on laminate surfaces,
- Reduces contact-related damage during daily cleaning,
- Maintains aesthetic appearance for longer periods.
Stainless steel material provides long-term resistance to scratches and moisture, making it highly suitable for kindergarten environments.
2) Stainless Steel Lever Handle (Baston Type) Application
The selected stainless steel baston-type lever handle is a highly durable solution frequently preferred in high-circulation buildings, providing longer service life compared to standard handle types.
This application offers:
- Reduced risk of wear and breakage with continuous use,
- More reliable hygiene performance on frequent-touch surfaces,
-
A strong and professional finish in the overall project appearance.
Stainless steel handle selection also increases resistance to cleaning chemicals, helping maintain the hardware’s form and surface quality over time.
Installation Scope and Field Implementation Standards
During the project installation, door components were evaluated and applied in line with the performance expectations of educational buildings, and field implementation was completed under controlled execution. Thanks to the structural advantages of the steel frame system, door openings remained more stable, while door leaf/frame alignment and accessory installation were carried out to ensure safer and smoother daily operation.
Result and Performance Evaluation
The Teacher Salim Yıldırım Kindergarten Project is a reference implementation demonstrating a long-lasting door system approach for educational facilities, where components such as steel frame laminate doors, vision panel classroom doors, stainless steel kick plates, and stainless steel baston lever handles were selected and applied as an integrated solution.
The overall system provides a holistic performance outcome for high-traffic kindergarten environments, supporting:
- High impact resistance,
- Hygiene and ease of cleaning,
- Safety and operational control,
- Reduced maintenance costs over the building lifecycle.
